Interview with a Seller: Disgrace to Blondes

Today's great interview comes straight to you featuring a shop that specializes in RETRO ACCESSORIES!! Read on and visit the shop for some great shopping!

1. What’s your name and shop name and what do you do?
Disgrace To Blondes retro accessories. Mainly I focus on Miniature top hats. I have always thought they were adorable! We do have other accessories: Hair flowers, bows, jewelry and I am now working on Steampunk accessories.

2. Where are you located?
Bellingham WA

3. What’s the favorite part of your craft?
The excitement of the customer. I love when people bring me ideas and I am able to execute them

4. How long have you been crafting?

5. What’s your favorite thing to make?
Steampunk items. I love the idea of soft and hard combined.


6. What kind of camera do you use to shoot?
I have a canon for shooting all my merch but mainly I ship out my product to photographers and models to work their magic.


7. Who or what models your items?
SOO Many different girls. Ruby Hardt(myself), Killer Kate, Miss Mandible, Smookie Tiger, Courtney Roth, Stephanie Hariman, Elise, Tanja G and Gleda. Not to mention the wonderful photographers: Parris Blue Productions, David M Bailey, Dave Ward, J Allen photography, Annie Vai, Styrene Images, Tainted Images.... phew I feel like I am thanking people at an award show!


8. What's the most rewarding part of running your own business?
Customer Satisfaction. Definitely!

9. What's the most challenging part of running your own business?
Keeping the thread and needle away from my 1 year old.... :D


10. On average, how many things do you create per week?
5. Depends on the week. Sometimes if I am creating something new I take time to test it out

11. What inspires you?
Beautiful women and their accessories


12. Take me thru your creative process.
It starts with Fabric. I looove going to the fabric store. That is where majority of my ideas come from. That and the hardware store. Once I have my fabric I start testing out colors and shapes.


13. What is your best advice to blossoming crafters?
Keep going even if things are slow. It never hurts to try things out and put yourself out there for people to see.

The Making of The Babadook Pop Up Book HD

My boyfriend has an affinity for horror films so when he recently showed me the movie The Babadook, I was interested because I too like a good scary story. I was happily surprised when the story focused on a mother and child and a bedtime story that is definitely NOT for children. The Babadook is a 2014 Australian-Canadian film in which a woman and her child are tormented by an evil entity. I recommend seeing this movie (even if you are not a fan of horror) for two reasons: the story, although portrayed as a horror film, is really a story of grief and how one copes and changes as a result of being touched by the death of a loved one.  Also, this film has some great papercraft and paper engineering, as you can see from the above video. Artists Collective: #4 - Robert Norman Ross

One of my earliest memories during my childhood was watching Bob Ross as a family with my parents and brother in the evenings on PBS. Bob's calm voice seemed to put me into a trance and with just a few simple strokes, Bob had created a beautiful pieces of work that now are highly valued and sought after by collectors around the world. Bob Ross is probably one of the most influential creators in my artists collective and I still find myself just as entranced and captivated by Bob's creations on the canvas today as I was when I was growing up. Its not hard to see why The Joy of Painting has had such an enduring impact on society. (It still plays on PBS and there are millions of videos on youtube!)
