You Spin Me Right Round Baby, Right Round! Spinner Card!

HEY!

Today’s post is a Spinner Card tutorial! YAY! I haven’t done a tutorial in almost a year, so I figured it was about time. :)







Stuff you will need:
pop dots or other dimensionals - round if you have them. (If not you will have to round them off with scissors.)
two pennies
roll-on glue
Stampin’ up Word Window Punch (long skinny) or xact-o knife
scissors
Stamps - 1 to feature and 1 as a spinner piece. (or a clip art image)
patterned papers and or your favorite stamp set
any other accouterments you would like.

1.  First you need to decide on the general layout of your card, what stamps you will be featuring and if this will be a horizontal or vertical type card. Decide where you want your spinner to be.

2.  Assemble the card the way you want it. Now it's time for the fun part!

3.  Take your Stampin' Up! Word Window Punch and a sheet of paper. This will be the slot for the spinning bit of the card. About a 1/2 inch in from the edge of the paper, punch the paper. Do the same from the other side of the paper, then match up the two previously punched slots and connect them by punching between them, so you just have one long window rectangle.

4.  Now measure another piece of paper for the backing of the piece you just cut.Eventually you will attach a pop dots or dimentionals to the pieces of paper in step 3 and step 4 and adhere to each other, but don't do this just yet.

5.  Now time for the spinner. Stamp the image and cut out. Adhere to a penny with roll-on glue.

6.  If your dimentional is not a circle dimentional, you should round the corners out now. Stick these two rounded dimentionals together. Adhere the penny with the stamped image to one side, then slide the piece of paper you punched in #3 over the dimentionals. Adhere the second penny to the free side of the dimentional. Your spinner is almost done!

7. Tip the piece of paper one way and the other to see how the spinner rolls. If it's not as smooth as you would like it, remove the penny and round the corners out some more. Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect!

8. When you get the spinner to roll like you want, adhere the final piece of paper for your spinner to the back, then adhere the entire spinning aperatus to the card base and you're done!

    Hi Rachael! Your spinner card is great, I will have to try this! Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog! That doily is die-cut from Aqua cardstock. I used the parisian doily die from Papertrey ink - LOVE it!!! Although it takes a while to press out all the little pieces from the holes :)

The Making of The Babadook Pop Up Book HD

My boyfriend has an affinity for horror films so when he recently showed me the movie The Babadook, I was interested because I too like a good scary story. I was happily surprised when the story focused on a mother and child and a bedtime story that is definitely NOT for children. The Babadook is a 2014 Australian-Canadian film in which a woman and her child are tormented by an evil entity. I recommend seeing this movie (even if you are not a fan of horror) for two reasons: the story, although portrayed as a horror film, is really a story of grief and how one copes and changes as a result of being touched by the death of a loved one.  Also, this film has some great papercraft and paper engineering, as you can see from the above video. I hope you enjoyed this post because this is easily one of my favorite movies now. I hope you get to see this film! Cheers!

Artists Collective: #4 - Robert Norman Ross

One of my earliest memories during my childhood was watching Bob Ross as a family with my parents and brother in the evenings on PBS. Bob's calm voice seemed to put me into a trance and with just a few simple strokes, Bob had created a beautiful pieces of work that now are highly valued and sought after by collectors around the world. Bob Ross is probably one of the most influential creators in my artists collective and I still find myself just as entranced and captivated by Bob's creations on the canvas today as I was when I was growing up. Its not hard to see why The Joy of Painting has had such an enduring impact on society. (It still plays on PBS and there are millions of videos on youtube!)
